The Evergreen Nightingale Completes 70 Years of Singing

| |

Lata Mangeshkar, the nightingale of India, completes seven decades of singing melodious songs for Indian films. She sang her first movie song in 1942 for the Marathi film “Kiti Hassal”. That year, she had acted in a movie too. But, Lata says she hated acting and was more keen on singing. How right her choice has proved!!!!!
Lata was forced to become a playback singer because of her father’s death in 1942. At an age when young girls play with dolls, Lata was forced to become the bread-winner for her family. But she has no regrets today. Lata says if her father had not passed away, she might have chosen classical singing over playback singing. So, Hindustani music’s loss has turned out to be Bollywood’s gain and how!!!!!
